6 Gems! vol. 20: When I quit being a complainiarian and let the light in.
I've been down. Maybe it's time to get up.
My son used to say: “Don’t be a complainiarian” — when he was just all done with whatever I was lamenting (probably something textbook dickish, like a traffic jam in the Trader Joe’s parking lot). And ohhhhh, he was right. I can really bore myself. It’s why I’m not in therapy rn. Hearing my own pathetic, privileged complaints (busy busy busy, aging aging aging, yadda yadda yadda) makes me want to slap myself sometimes.
Slap received. You know, being here, all moved into my little cheerful Boston crashpad (where I’ll stay instead of a hotel when I come through town now), celebrating some little gems, and yes, hearing some of those DNC speeches, it all gives a girl a little hope. I’m not making lemonade yet, but I’m def ready to cut a wedge into my Poland Springs. It’s a start. Maybe one of these little lifts will be your start too.
