So everybody’s favorite Every Body Gets Dressed author,
, does this genius thing, which is dividing a season into 7 situations that require 7 outfits. So basically once you figure out your 7 basic use cases, and with a little planning ahead, you always have something ready to wear that makes you feel good. And then our fearless Anna Newton of
offered her take, which drove the concept home for me even further, seeing a second person put it into practice IRL.Now the heart of what I’ve been doing about the “getting dressed without a closet tornado” thing is an idea I got from Trinny Woodall: Sunday evening outfit planning. I do these as lives on IG so you can do it with me if you want, and I then take photos of each look, accessorized, and put them on a rack ready to wear on any given day. (FYI, I also put the prompts up here each Sunday in my “what I wore all week” roundups.)
But ALSO, I have developed a feel-good uniform, and this is my go-to when I’m not sure what to wear, at any time. And, I’ve noticed, when I need comfort (not just tactile; it’s more about the psychological, something I talked about in my last podcast).
So it occurred to me: Could I combine the 2 ideas? Could I pick out 7 spring “frequent life scenarios” and create an outfit for each that is still within the parameters of my uniform? Because, if so, I officially have clothing as armor. A feel-good formula for anything that life can throw at me. And you. (!)
