Um. Ok. This week a lot of family stuff, none of it good. See also: Country stuff. World stuff. Also not good.

The week saw betrayals — in and outside my circle. Betrayals of our humanity. Betrayals of the things that were promised. To seniors, for example. Betrayals of the body (dad is ok, I think, but f*ck maybe a bug … it is a lot for his body). And more. Betrayals can chip away at my hope and optimism — you go quickly from how could this happen — to of course, the world is this. The world is failed promises! And I am to blame for believing otherwise. Naive! Polyanna!

But a) that’s oversimplifying, when our humans, the humans we cherish, the ones we want to believe in, are COMPLICATED and b) I am grateful to be alive — at 54. My son’s dad is gone at 57. And I REFUSE! I refuse to sacrifice my happiness. Even if things suck, I can still be happy.

I’m happy. Happy being here in Miami. Happy to be doing THIS right now. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this group of friends right here.

There is realness and kindness here. These things are big and powerful. Maybe I can see this. Maybe I can believe that most people are trying, trying to be good.

Musical accompaniment, the source of a favorite quote:

“I want to be good — is that not enough?”

This week in outfit planning — we did “texture” — how would the focus on the feel of the fabrics versus louder players (like color) make you feel?

Here is the planning session on IG if you’re interested. First, a few key takeaways. (The week brought some ahas!)
