“I want to be her.”
Do you sometimes get that feeling? I know I’m not the only one;
wrote the (literal) book and it’s the name of her Substack.At 54, I find that I rarely if ever genuinely want to be her (mostly too tiring), but it’s the name I put on that feeling you feel when the fleeting vision of someone just takes you to this place, this exciting place where you think — “I want to make a change, big or small, I want to shake something up.”
I had a moment of it the other day, over brunch at Bal Harbour (perfect for people and car watching). This 20-something young woman (if that) with a glossy little low ponytail. A boxy black oversized T-shirt (you know that’s already my jam) falling just so over a shiny satin skirt, also black. A few layered necklaces in a dark metal. And then a chunky white Balenciaga sneaker mule.
Something about it felt so fresh, carefree, comfortably beautiful.
I wondered how much the monochrome figured into the equation, and I figured it would be interesting to find out. So I proposed we try 5 days of monochrome.
