In the midst of spring cleaning, I stumbled on a treasure.
It’s brochure from Opening Night at the Massachusetts Conference for Women. On it, I wrote words I heard that night. Word so resonant that I couldn’t help but record them. It’s been 76 days, and the applause is long gone from that packed convention center. But these words are resonant still, and I want to give thanks to the women who spoke them, the women who came together to hear them, and the women who are out there living them.
Here they are.
1. “Be a human.” — Diana Bitzas, Senior Director, Global Business and Marketing Planning at Reebok.
2. “The act of speaking can be a revolution. . . Comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.” — Sarah Kay, award winning poet, founder and co-director project V.O.I.C.E.
3. “I thought I’d open a sub shop or a bar.” Barbara Lynch, James Beard foundation award-winning restauranteur.
4. “I was always hustling. I just didn’t have as many assistants.” Bethenny Frankel, Skinny Girl creator, self-made businesswoman and branding guru.
5. “Disrupt yourself.” Christina Luconi, Chief People Officer, Rapid 7.
6. “It’s going to take a while to undo the system. . . You need a chosen family that supports you no matter how different we are.” — Gloria Steinem.
