13 looks that helped me lighten up a little.
There’ve been some glum moments, honestly. We have them! Post divorce, I remember one day I cried in every single room of the house. And then something about that really made me laugh. I don’t know, I was like, “Rachel, you’re so thorough!”
I am laughing again this past week.
gave me this idea to take inspo from Lacoste ss2025.These looks are so me. They take me back to moments — wearing my dad’s yellow rain slicker and Belmont Hill sweater; Lacoste wrist bands I bought to prepare to do very badly at 7th grade tennis; the boys we danced with in college fraternity basements, in their polo shirts with tees under (once I danced so much, I borrowed one of those polos and shed my sweater in the bathroom and it was like sweet relief — also I got to wash and return the polo!). Only here, on the runway, it all gets a sophisticated twist.
It’s the best of all worlds, the playful freedom of “baby you,” plus the calm knowingness (mostly) and better skin (also, mostly) that comes from ending the race down the court — who remembers the sprints from line to line? — and finally arriving.
I was so ready to let my ripsh*t inner McInroe go and have a good time already. (Ok the f bombs are staying.)
And let me just say, this week DID IT for me.
uses the word “play” very actively and purposefully to describe what we get to do with clothes. So does Meera of Bow Street Style “have a play.” It felt like an unlock.I will write about this month in shopping later, as I always do, but I also have felt an unlock there. Playing with what I what I have makes me feel the abundance and want less.
