Another ask via IG. And I must say, I’ve been excited to address it.
Alas, I’m late for x-mas but maybe in time for NY!
First, a confession. When I see certain influencers with their minimal (in both style and number of pieces) wardrobes showcase a “capsule whatever” wardrobe, I a little bit want to … well, punch them is strong, so maybe roll my eyes. Heartily.
Of course when you have such a high level of vitriol over something small it generally means something else is going on with you, Rachel! Probably jealousy. Because even though I don’t actually want to pare down (or I would - you get what you choose), I often want to want to pare down.
But mostly I think what I can’t stand is what sometimes looks like a subtle self righteousness. And IMHO (sorry) misplaced self-satisfaction because it all feels so borrrrrring. Black, brown, navy, cream. Slightly oversized crew neck. Impeccably folded T shirt, Steamed white button up. Etc. Sure you make fewer mistakes if you only work with classic, timeless pieces. Like packing, which I also happen to do well!
Back when I thought I would be doing all this back and forth travel to and from my parents’, I pretty much had a winter capsule at their place. But when you’re talking about pieces you’ll keep at home in your warm weather state and then deploy for travel, I think you want to be especially judicious — I hate looking at a bunch of stuff I don’t wear, let alone couldn’t even wear if I wanted to.
So here’s how I’d handle:
