“Susanne Shops the Summer Sales” Edition
Our COO/Project Manager Susanne moonlights as a serious navigator of online sales (“30, 40, 50% off? That’s for rookies!”) So I thought I’d ask (ok, force) her to share what’s on her summer sale list and where she’ll be wearing these things in her #freelancelife. (Bonus: “Usually you have to wait until July 4 for discounts like these,” says Susanne. So there you go.)
And now, drumroll please …
COMME DES GARÇONS Check Open Back Wool Blazer. Original Price: $2,253.00. Sale Price: $675.90.
Did you know Nordstrom price matches other sites’ sales automatically? (Me either.) Of this jacket in the Nordstrom designer sale, Susanne says: “All business in the front but a cheeky twist in the back make it more than a standard blazer.” It’s pretty unexpected, but so are we. And the mere fact that it’s a blazer makes it meeting-appropriate for a non-agency agency like ours. We actually have quite a few meetings. At least one a week.
2. Altuzarra Pavilion Silk Crêpe De Chine Dress Original price: $2,495. Sale price: $749. (still not cheap, but it’s 60% off + take an extra 25% off, Susanne says giddily.)
Susanne says: “There was a version of this in recent Vogue with Sandra Bullock … ever since I have coveted everything Altuzarra Spring 2018 … so pretty with an edge.” We have yet to do much networking, but we should. This would make for a good cocktail party dress for something at, say Rowes Wharf. You might have to close the slit little. (Hey, anything to qualify it as a business expense. Kidding! I kid.)
3. Sacai grosgrain-trimmed denim culottes. Original price: $535. Sale price: $160.50.
“Super chic denim culottes, not the cutesy ones you see everywhere,” Susanne says. “Dark denim and a true slouch. A summer-to-fall piece. Now with sandals and a tee, come fall with booties and a slouchy sweater.” These are fine for most workdays when you’re a consultant. And fine for most creative/fashion jobs with a sandal, too.
4. Alexander Wang hybrid knit pullover. Original price: $ 550.00. Sale price: $220.00.
Like going to an airline web site, going to individual brand sites is one of Susanne’s secret weapons. At Alexander Wang, she “already ordered this elevated sweatshirt to toss on with anything and everything.” It’s loungewear that makes you look like you know what you’re doing. (And she does. Obvi.)
5. Proenza Schouler. Ruffle Satin Backed Crepe Dress. Original Price: $990.00. Sale Price: $296.99.
Susanne “just ordered this little number. Hoping to wear as a top with dark denim for a meeting, or leave open as a fall jacket over a tee & jean.” Dresses as not-dresses is a very big trend. You know, among the two of us.
6. Peter Pilotto. Striped Draped Jersey Midi Dress. Original Price: $1,126.00. Sale price: $675.
“So, so pretty striped midi to wear anywhere and everywhere!” says Susanne. We discovered themodist.com this year. Because its niche is women in the UES, it’s also great for businesswomen and anyone else who wants to be cool but covered up. Another piece to motivate us to do some day-to-night networking.
7. Maison Margiela. Drawstring Trouser. Original price: $490. Sale price: $196.
But of course, there will be lots of days like these. Susanne handles all timelines, tracking work, lots of business development stuff, account management, finances. That can mean some full-on, solo workdays. “These do the trick for summer sweats … while looking cute when I need to escape to the coffee shop for a caffeine reboot.”
8. Givenchy Red & Black Fur Slides, $244, from $595.and Baja East Black & White Fila Edition Shearling Drifter Slides, $34 from $105.
And about those WFH days ... The furry shoe thing is bound to end soon, so if you’re going there, sale is the way to do it. Susanne says these are “both cool & casual to pair with those Maison Margiela sweats or better yet, to roll up to the poolside bar for a margarita.”
For all her hard work she deserves one. The slides too.
