I’m writing this opening at one of my morning spots when I just got off the phone with my dad and he was LIGHT AND JOYFUL. OMG. I adore my dad in any state, but seriously. NOTHING could be better than taking him on a “facetime walk” in my neighborhood, wondering if that’s new construction or just a fence, and guessing what that building that says “1926” used to be. “There are no good cars!!!” said my dad this morning. Maybe the partiers with the flashy cars hadn’t woken up yet.
But we were awake! The fluid seems to be gone from his lungs. And he sounds jubilant. I am jubilant.
When I’m happy, I get dressed.
When I was sad, I got dressed to comfort myself. And when I’m happy I get dressed to be as in the moment as possible.
This past week’s outfit theme was inspired by all the weekend clothes and outfits that made you happy. Pieces and looks we then leave behind all week long! If it made you happy when you wore it over the weekend, why aren’t you taking it into the week?
(next week’s theme at the end of this post)
MONDAY
What: The painted Gallery Dept shorts I got at Veblen a bit ago (Here is a pair for$150. A secondhand Tibi shirt with 2 collars (how about this, a new discovery via a platform focused on sustainability). Celine blazer. Alaia flats, which I will keep because they are incredibly comfy and cute, but love this lesser-known, very cool color.
Why: I had worn these shorts the weekend before with my uniform tee and felt amazing. I had a Zoom or two, but no one would see them. I wondered if I would still feel amazing with these workier elements on top.
Outcome: It was … ok! The double collar saved it from being too nondescript up top. It reminded me of these fraternity dudes who wore old khaki shorts with a tuxedo top and a cummerbund at some point. On its face, this may look like the Amy/Tibi “Mohawk dressing” issue. But I think the shoes help that, and the real issue is the jacket and shirt, which are both sort of … not skinny, not oversized. And the shorts are more oversized but not exaggerated (at least not for me). So everything was playing at the same level. Versus after work, I got back in one of my uniform shirts that is REALLY big, and immediately felt better. What I think I need to do is actually sell the blazer. Or take it to Boston. I don’t need a classic wool blazer in Miami, if at all.
TUESDAY
What: Tibi tank (sold out, but check Tibi fans; it’s called Grant). My Prada suit (old, had it for prob a decade and it’s my MVP - if you want to spend on the new iteration it’s here: blazer + I would do pants — I added the shorts later when I found them on sale.) You could also try this on TRR (and then take it to a tailor who has good style). This isn’t returnable but it’s $79. You could probably re-sell it for a profit. And I love the look/price/credibility of House of Dagmar — blazer + pants. Gray Fendi Peekaboo. My crazy comfy Miu Miu blue sandals. And the hero of the story, a sheer dress made for me (order any color) by independent, sustainable Miami designer Valeria Krasavina. My story on her includes contact info. And Tuesday I’ll do a live look at her new collection.
Tuesday evening I will go live on Substack from Valeria studio with a look at her new collection!
Why: I had my biggest meeting day, and in my outfit planning, this was what I was most excited to wear.
Outcome: Obsessed. Full body joy in this. Lofted Settledness unlocked.
On my walk: Surprisingly, I loved wearing this on my walk! Tibi Balloon pants (secondhand, old) … you can get a pair in long here and roll if you want. Skims blue bra. M.Gemi dark red flats. Melitta Baumeister smile tee; here is a black one.
