What I wore all week: From epic proportions to comfort seeking to ... vacation.
And here I thought last week was the roller coaster.
So happy being in my 50s I didn’t expect, somehow, the whallops. I got caught off guard, like you’re standing there feeling the water on your toes and a wave comes up and slaps the sh*t out of you.
Sorry, mom, I have decided to swear a lot. It’s a free vice!
I was taking some me time in my beloved Miami, seeing some of my girlfriends, smooching my cats, getting rejuvenated. Had one full day/night left, and I woke to a 5AM message from mom, telling me dad had acute pneumonia and I better come back to Boston. By 10 I was at the airport.
This summer has, let me just say, sucked. Like privileged-sucked, but sucked, nonetheless. I don’t want to fake it here or elsewhere, so let’s just tell the truth. I have been in so many hotels and not-my-home’s. My stuff is everywhere, I wake up and don’t know where I am, and I feel completely untethered.
I’m figuring something out about this soon.
Onto what I can (mostly) control.
The outfits …
Monday
Had decided that the outfit planning theme for the week was “epic proportions.” So that’s where I started.
What: Old Celine dress via eBay. Loewe belt from the Real Real. Tibi shoes. Secondhand Hermes 24/24/35 bag. (But actually I ended up using my large Hermes Jige, which was more geometric.) Tibi shoes. And I have a shoulder pad body suit under there.
Why: When I interviewed some fashion folx about dressing for the hottest days of summer,
had a really interesting formula that embraced the idea that some structure is essential to feel right in her skin. I love this linen dress, which has these really cool lines and tucks at the waist, and she made me realize that’s probably the reason. For this epic proportions moment, I wanted to amp up the structure of the dress even more by adding the belt, shoulder pads, and pointy shoe.Outcome: I was in heaven wearing this, being in Miami, walking and working.
