You came, you culled, you ... what now?

current cull state!

I’ve written a few times and in various ways about closet culling, because it’s something I believe in a lot and do quite a bit. I love the notion of having only clothes I actually wear and am able to deploy in service of feeling like my best self.

The world (including me) tells us we are “good” when we pare down. We make it seem desirable, and somehow kinda — noble? You remember that Marie Kondo series started with Kondo on the ground, kneeling in prayer.

So we cull. And we feel better. But the crucial thing is not to throw clothes away. I don’t think I even need to say it here. But can you believe this stat my friend Christian shared with me? “In 2018, Americans threw away 17m tons of textiles …By comparison, just 1.7m tons were thrown out in 1960 … The average European is said to throw around … 24 lbs of clothes, shoes and fabric goods out annually.” (source: Sophie Benson, Good on You, via Conscious Fashion).

I present to you some other solutions. And because here I try to provide ideas you don’t have already, I’m not going to reiterate what you likely already know, but feel free to ask anything in the comments as always.
