Hello + welcome to another edition of “Why the f*ck did I wear that?” Re-thiking a failed loo. Which you liked (thanks for the feedback!). I think it’s good, too, because it brings together lots of what I want to do here which is to be authentic, keeping it real and sharing mistakes, and also to be helpful, with real tips as I pick them up. Plus short form is a good break from my longer, meatier ruminations, I think!

And speaking of keeping it real, I have no clue why I’m bleary eyed in these pictures. At 6 PM. I blame 2 forces for most of my issues: Trump + hormones. So take your pick. Also, I shared a little of this failed look on IG, but I felt it would be good to lay it out more here. I’m experimenting a bit with what goes best where.

TAKE ONE

Going for an evening walk having not been out all day.

  • I thought it would be good to get a photo in this Tibi skirt because people had been asking me about the fit; it’s on sale.

  • And I thought I’d wear the tube socks because I wore them a bit before and they made me happy.

  • I figured sneakers would be too cheerleader-y and the socks with loafer would be comfortable.

  • And then I was confused about the top and taking too long and wanted to leave already, so I took my gray Hey Gang tee, which I think goes with everything and forced myself out the door.

  • I thought of a black bag but I hadn’t worn this one in a while.

  • Ok, as soon as I walked out the door I felt like an ass! Like an overgrown preschooler! AND I was cold.

  • The problem(s): There is no friction. When I wore the tube sock before (BTW, styling totally cribbed from Amy of Tibi — but per our last discussion, re everyone cribs everything, it’s been done before!) — it was with refined pieces (skirt, heel, blazer), and that gave it a lot of friction. Here the loafer is NO DIFFERENT in impact than a sneaker. Every piece here could be in a 6 year old’s school cubby. Even the bag isn’t so far afield, kinda lunchboxy. I felt like I was in a costume. I was immediately thinking of what I’d do to fix it.

THE FIX
