Nostalgic pull is real! I live two doors from my parents home where I grew up and am constantly surrounded by it and feel so lucky. In clothing/style it appears in love of alllll things RL, pops of 80s neon (which you remind me to bring in) and school uniform looks from my all girls Catholic school (ours was like gossip-girl but not as chic). Now to just MODERNIZE it all a bit and add FUN! 😉
This is my most beloved of all your columns. And how your beauty--in silver and purple (my favorite color) created a cherished birthday memory for me forever.
I feel so moved by this newsletter! You transported me to the time in my childhood when I didn't only collect rocks and shells, but candy wrappers (the shinier the better) and bird feathers. I was a bird watcher to boot, and I'd squeal of joy at the sight of the bright orange chest of the European robin, or the male common pheasant in its bold, iridescent spring attire.
No wonder I could never relate to the athleisure trend. I don't feel the pull of track pants. Give me sequins, shimmer, a bold pop of color, or an interesting earthy texture instead!

Yes that is exactly right!
Love all your silver items and looks!!!
Thanks so much!
My nostalgia is surf related - shells, shark tooth necklaces, Hawaiian shirts, brands like Billabong!
Yes! Anything that reminds me of JAMS shorts affects me, too. And did you see the Loewe tanks with attached shell necklaces?
Thank you for this article - it took me back to halcyon days. I too peeled mica.
Awww I was hoping someone else did!
